David Patchen - Creating the Hand-Blown Glass

Timing is Critical

The pastorelli and plate are placed on the bench so I can pick up the cane and murrine by rolling the molten glass bubble on it. The glass bubble must be the right shape and circumference to match the size of the design. Since the bubble is liquid, the speed I turn affects its shape and size. The hot glass immediately sticks to the design so there is little room for error.
