Tara, 80+
Bumburet Valley, Pakistan Tara still spends ten hours per day working in her cornfields. My interpreter told me that she was extremely beautiful when she was young and desired by many men. Her first marriage was arranged as dictated by Kalash tradition. Shortly after her first child was born she fell in love with her second husband. In the case of an “elopement marriage” such as this, the second husband must pay the first husband twice the original bride price. In Tara’s situation this amounted to forty goats.
