Willoq, Peru According to her first-grade teacher, Lucia is rather shy and does not sing and dance as readily as her classmates. Next year will be critical for her. At that time, her classes will begin to be taught in Spanish instead of her native language, Quechua. In mixed classes Quechua children struggle to keep up with their Spanish-speaking schoolmates. Many Quechua children quit school at this time out of frustration.
