More than half of all Huichols undertake the rigorous studies needed to become a shaman. Heriberto now spends much of his time as an apprentice, learning the intricate beadwork used in making prayer bowls. He will learn how to tap into the metaphysical world and use it as a reservoir from which he can envision and create designs.
