Lesirikan, Kenya In the Samburu culture, females are circumcised two days before their wedding. Oriena assists the circumciser in her village. They had been working with a government nurse, who provided antibiotics during the procedure and encouraged minimal tissue removal. Recently, however, due to the blanket condemnation of the practice by the developed world, funding for these nurse/educators has been terminated and infection rates have shot back up.
