Horek 43, Enalia 50
Jiwika, Irian Jaya Horek typically spends all day working in the garden, and at dusk returns home to cook and help care for her new granddaughter. Like most women her age, she traditionally cuts a finger off each time a relative or close friend dies. Paying respect and caring for one’s spirit ancestors are considered essential for the health of the tribe. Over the years she has lost two brothers, a daughter and a husband to malaria.
