David Patchen - Creating the Hand-Blown Glass

Create the Initial Shape

While Steve carefully heats up the cane and murrine design, I begin to create a bubble out of molten clear glass. After I gather glass out of the furnace I cool the pipe with water so I can handle it closer to the glass, which is important for precision.

Clear molten glass is on the end of the pipe. It is only glowing orange because it's very hot.
